"A Brief History of..."(Study Task 09): Search Engine Optimisation

Search engines use algorithms to assess the suitability and ranking of websites based on search terms.

Page Authority - how likely a particular web page within a site will be ranked in search based on SEO optimisation, internal linking and content relevance.

Domain Authority -  best estimate of how well a domain will perform in search. It figures out all the SEO factors and rates how good it is.

On the page factors - Content / Html / Architecture

Off the page factors - Links / Trust / Social / Personal

Violations - Irrelevant and weak content / Spam / Paid for links

Content

The pages are well written and contain substantial quality content.

Key words and phrases people may search to find my website:
- Cyprus
- Learn About Cyprus
- Cyprus History
- Cyprus Division
- Cyprus War
- Cyprus About the Land
- Cyprus Green Line/ Bufferzone
- Cyprus Invasion
- Greek Cypriots
- Turkish Cypriots
- The Republic of Cyprus
- The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus

My main sections fall under these titles so that they can be easily searched and located.

Engage
Visitors spend time reading different sections of information depending on what has caught their eye and then jump from information to information. Even though there is a loose order to the information the order in which it catches your eye doesn't matter as it is broken up into smaller sections.

Fresh
The pages aren't 'fresh' about hot topics because it is a historical website so it wouldn't be appropriate for the information to be changing. Perhaps it could have a section 'Cyprus Now' with up to date news.

Thin
The content isn't heavy because it is meant to be a brief introduction to the history of cyprus to which people go away and research more. However this is not to say it is lacking substance, the information is appropriate for the purpose.

Ads
My website will contain no adverts but will be purely educational.

HTML and ARCHITECTURE I will look at and consider once I have created my website, as it currently is hard to answers questions such as "do the HTML title tags contain keywords relevant to page topics?" and "does the site load quickly" without a website.

I've found it hard to fill out the 'off the page' factors because I have only created what it will look like on the page and not created the behind the scenes. Once I have learnt to code then I will consider the Links, Trust, Social and Personal Aspects.
