"A Brief History of...": Looking at Websites

The point of this is to look at working website and just write down the first words that come to my head. I will then answer the following three questions:

1. What is the purpose of the website?
2. Who is the target audience?
3. Was my reaction intended by the designer?

L'Occitane

Busy, overwhelming, contrast, not sure where to look

1. The purpose is to advertise the current products in stock and to make people buy them.

2. The target audience is primarily women, perhaps slightly wealthier women because of the price or perhaps people buying presents.

3. No the designer did not intentionally make it busy. However the blue and yellow shades are a nice contrast and feel bright and refreshing, like the products should.

IPlayer

Dark, clear, easy to navigate

1. The purpose is to provide all the programmes of the BBC on catch up.

2. The target audience is BBC viewers with internet. Perhaps slightly younger viewers who don't watch it live.

3. Yes, I think they intended it to be clear and easy to navigate as it is simple for anyone to use and this suits them as they have a wide target audience.

Ebay

Jumbled, not clear, all over the place

1. The purpose is to sell and buy second hand products.

2. The target audience is people who have things to sell as buy.

3. No, definitely not! but it fulfils its roll.

It's Nice That

Clear, Simplistic, It's Nice

1. The purpose is to show and expose different art and design.

2.  Designers and people looking for designers.

3.  Yes, it works perfectly for its purpose and gives the correct impression.
