Responsive - Food In The Loop: Past Entries

I have decided to look through some of their past briefs and the work that has been created for it. This will help me get a better idea of what they are after.

Energy
Posterheroes proposes a debate on future’s energetic policies after the decision took by the Italian government to open a new nuclear season, interrupted by the 1987 referendum. The Italian issue opened a deliberation involving the whole international socio-economic and environmental situation. The contest represents an means of communication for young people, who may express their energetic opinions which may then be adopted for a sustainable future.

A very simple one colour print that would work really well as a screen print. The turbine formed out of the negative space within the lightbulb shows how it could be powered.

Wind is natural power is represented nicely by daisies loosing their petals. This implies the wind is blowing them off but also that the daisy is the wind turbine rotating. A very clever way of showing the message, the humanistic type reinforces the idea of natural and natural resources rather than man made.

Showing the colour range of the sea and comparing it to different types of energy makes you realise that there is a lot of renewable energy that could be used. The poster design is neat and clear, at first glance it does look like it is for Dulux however this works in favour of message by showing the whole range of power.

Really simple but with a strong message questioning whether using oil is really life compared to water which is portrayed in an upbeat, clean and refreshing way next to the oil.

The needle in this form is a symbol of addiction, you relate it to the idea of being addicted to drugs. However filling the needle with a black liquid represents dirty oil and how we are all relying on it. The bright yellow background really catches your attention and focuses your eye on the contrasting black. Having the needle in white works well, you can see it but its not the focus, the focus isn't the needle by rather what it represents.

The energy saving light bulb acts as a representation of all eco ways of producing and using energy. By saying turn on the peace it is implying that peace will be an outcome if we convert to these methods instead. The light bulb has been shaped to look like a peace hand sign to bring together the idea of peace and energy working in harmony.

The message behind this design is clever, by using a box with nuclear waste to represent the ring it acts as a reminder that nuclear waste does last forever.

The main colours used across the designs are blues and yellows. Blues represent clean and clear energy. Your mind relates it to water and other natural resources. The bright yellow is linked with nuclear waste, it is eye catching and has a harsh affect in comparison to the light blue. Colour is a key factor in design as the connotations that a colour has affects the way the viewer will perceive the message of the design.

SMART CITIES AND TRANSPARENT EVOLUTION

After dealing with the issues of energy and consumption, with the 2012/2013 edition, Posterheroes proposes a debate on sustainability in the fields of production, health, mobility and public life in cities. Together with the issues of the first two editions, these last ones complete the six characteristics suggested by the European Community as indicators for a Smart City.

Combining a drop of water with a lightbulb by using the similarities in the shape. By having the lightbulb screw on a lower opacity it allows both designs to be shown and the concept is clear. The lightbulb is a symbol for energy and the water represents the use idea of hydro-energy.

A clever illustration relating the city to a pair of lungs. The lack of green on the city plan shows how people get ill without fresh air and green spaces.

Showing oil in the context of refillable drinks. You can refill your drink as many times as you want but oil is not the same. Once it is gone its gone, this poster really makes you realise the how finite the oil supply is. By using the colour black and the gas pump instead of the straw it is clearly connotes oil and does not need to be explicitly written.

This is different from the other posters as it is solely type based. However it makes a valid point about the development of both smart cities and smarter people.

A simple but extremely clever poster idea to show how the cars cause a great deal of pollution but the simple solution is cycling. If more people cycled rather than driving not only would the population be healthier but it would drastically reduce the pollution rates in the city.

Cut the Fat shown with fat on brown paper. Straight to the point, by using the brown paper people relate it to the paper bags their take away food, like McDonalds, comes in. Usually the fat stains the bag and it is very off putting, this poster really plays to that idea showing the horrible side to fat.
