Collaborative Practice - Save The Children: London Underground/Bus Poster

I designed a poster for the underground tubes in London but it can also be used on buses around the city. Whilst people are travelling their attention tends to be grabbed by the posters around them irrelevant of whether the design is good or bad. People naturally read and look at things whilst they are waiting for time to go by, exactly in places like the bus or the tube.

I wanted to design using all the planets because they are bright and colourful it contrast nicely against the dark blue background.

At first I tried keeping the planets the same as the book cover. The reason I originally adjusted the sizes was because having them in proportion meant that Jupiter and Saturn took up too much room and you couldn't see or make out the first four planets. However in this case I have changed it back to proportional sizes because it has a stronger impact, especially when you realise the size of the Earth in comparison to Jupiter.

I was working with the planets in a straight line through the middle but this wasn't really working so I shifted it to an angle instead. This way I could easily fit type in either opposing corner.

The information still wouldn't fit in no matter how it was positioned.

In the end the angle of the planets was made less dramatic so that the type could fit in either side of the planets.

This is now the final. I have been able to squeeze the Save The Children logo in the bottom left corner. The text says "Reading opens up so many possibilities for your child so show them how important it is by reading to them for ten minutes a day. Visit the Save The Children website for more information and a FREE starter pack which contains everything you need to launch your child's future." This gives people reading enough information for them to go away and find out more. The space theme makes it fun and interesting leaving you wanting to find out more.
