Collaborative Practice - Save the Children: Astronomy Exhibition

On a recent trip to London I visited Greenwich Observatory where they were holding an Astronomy Exhibition. I found the exhibition really interesting however it was hard to get photos from it because of lighting and also rules. However I managed to get some good photos in the gift shop which has been interesting when thinking about how we should design. I discovered that there were a few running themes between some of the designs.

This was a pop up book that I really liked the idea of, it added an interactive and more interesting element to keep the child's attention.

Metallics
One running theme that I have noticed throughout the book covers is the use of metallics -  either silver or gold. The use of them not only catches your eye but also helps to reflect the kind of man made materials used when creating spaceships etc... This is a strong element which I think we could pull into our design outcome.

Space Representation
Quite a few books used more realistic images of space. Books such as The Night Sky and At The Same Moment Around The World combine a simple illustrative style with a more detailed space backing.

Simple Illustrations
Some books focused around a simpler illustration style as you can see with the two examples above. This simplifies the images as well as creating nice illustrations to go with the text.

In the Exhibition
Around the exhibition itself some of the information had simple line drawings framing one side of the information board. The same style was carried through explanative illustrations.

Museum Signs
Some parts were simple cut outs with an image of space shining through behind. This simple style really helps to bring life to the information making it more interesting and a bit brighter/more fun.
