Collaborative Practice - Save The Children: The Promotional Pack

The Promotional Pack
The Promotional pack includes everything that the child and father will need to start their reading journey. The progress chart allows them to track what they are reading and for how long. The design style is appealing to children and is something they would want to stick on their wall. It gives the child a proud sense of accomplishment when they fill in what they have read and can then see how far they have progressed. The 'mission completed' stickers can be used after a whole week of reading to mark off the planet. By the end of the 8 weeks with all 8 planets marked off a routine will have been established showing both the child and the father the benefits of reading and how fun it can be. Three bookmarks are included in the pack so that it encourages children to have more than one book on the go and explore new and interesting topics with their Dad. The book itself is aimed at fathers and includes everything from how to be the best storyteller to encouraging older children to read.

Progress Chart
The aim of the progress chart is to give the child something to mark of as an accomplishment. It also gives both the father and the child a goal to aim for and allows them to track the progress; seeing how far they have come, how much they have read and for how long. To give the progression chart a purpose a mission has been created. The mission is to read for 10+ minutes each day for a whole week. Each week would be in relation to a planet so there would be 8 weeks. At the end of each day the child can fill in what they've read and for how long. At the end of each week the child can place a 'mission completed' sticker next to the planet. This would act as a visual representation of how well the reading is going. The colours and simple illustrations make something quite boring into something fun and exciting. The chart makes you want to read so that you can fill it out.

8 'mission completed' stickers are included in the pack for each week as well as all of the planets as their own stickers. The planet stickers can be used by the child to stick wherever they please.

Book
The book design has been kept relatively simple so that the content speaks for itself. The planet illustrations have been used throughout the book to help brighten up the page layouts and also to reinforce the space theme. The design needs to be child-friendly but not childish so that it will engage the father whilst still making the child feel included. Each page includes a fun fact about the planet, this gives the father something educational and interesting to discuss with their child whilst also providing a break from the body copy.
