Studio Task - Branding (OUGD406 + Design Practice 1)

For a one day group project were were put in a same sex group with people of a similar height. My group was given Flamingo Land a zoo/theme park up north.

Initially we looked up a bit about its history and how it got its name.

We then had a look at its website and similar websites so to get an idea of their design style. We found that they were very crowded and over complicated with colours flashing left right and centre.

We created a mind map of our initial thoughts and ideas but decided to work with an idea of Jess' which involved the letter F in the shape of a flamingo but still distinguishable as an F. We began to make it in illustrator keeping it simple and child friendly.

We wanted the font to be child friendly, bold and interesting. That is why we went with Cubano, it was everything we wanted and needed to show the adventure park off.

Originally we wanted the F to be the first letter however it didn't really work all together as it looked like Lamingo land. Below shows a few of our experiments with working type around the logo.

We played around with water splash to show the water areas however decided that it looked too overcrowded with it.

In the end we added grass to the bottom to bring in the green, it made it less girly and feel more adventurous.

A mock up of the website was done and it was a lot clearer and neater that previously.
