Brief 2 - Alphabet Soup/Illustrator: First Attempt

This is the first attempt at brief 2 (creating our own illustrator typeface). With no prior use of illustrator it is pleasing to see how far the alphabet has developed so far. The concept of precision and focusing on having the larger curves which can suddenly adjust to something so fine and neat is showing potential.

The initial problem was that the thicker area works very well on certain letters with natural curves such as the 'a' and 'b' but not so well on letter like 'f' or 'j' even though these do have curves they don't quite sit right. However upon reaching the end of the alphabet it dawned on me that they don't have to all have a thicker area, some could just show the thin lines like the 'x'.

One thing that does need to be sorted is the point size of all the letters, adjusting the x height and base line etc will help the letters look uniform. But just to begin with it is good to get a rough idea of how the letters should look.

Another issue that needs to be solved is the line widths as currently different letters are different. The 'a' 'o' 'g' and 'c' are the best because they show the concept well as well as looking elegant and legible. The majority of the letters need working on but now that there is a rough idea it allows a good starting point to make corrections and iron out flaws.
