Study Task: Vote

After some initial research into previous successful campaigns we decided that it would be best to target a specific group of 18-22 year olds. Students will be easiest to aim at as they are all in the same place. The universities or colleges provide a great place for the campaign to be set up. The first thing we have had to question is why students don't vote.

Why don't students vote
• Hassle
• Intimidating
• Where to register
• Not interested
• My Vote won't change anything

We have decided to target students by creating a pack that could be given to universities, colleges etc... across England. The pack would include several hot-dog fold books which would all focus on a different big current issue for example Immigration. The book would then explain each parties stand on the topic and what they plan to do if they get into government. The book will be primarily text based but will be kept as simple as possible so that the students can get an overview but won't have/won't be put off by heavy content. Content for the book will be gathered from the BBC HERE.

The pack will also contain an A1 board (design yet to be decided). The board will be fixed to a wall and to one side will be all the booklets. On the other side will be 5 different stickers to represent the 5 different parties competing, the stickers will be 15cm by 5 cm. The range of stickers will be colour coded to match their party and also our branding. Each sticker with say "I'm Voting for *CONSERVATIVES* because...." The party will change and the colour will change accordingly. At the bottom of the sticker will be enough room for the person to write why they are voting for their chosen party. This will then be stuck on the A1 board.

The plan is that everyone will stick up who they are voting for and the board will become filled with stickers and colour as each sticker will be different. From a distance you will be able to see what party holds the majority. The board will be useful for those who don't know who to vote for as they can read other people's reasons and read the books provided on the side.

The activity of filling out a sticker and adding it to the board will make students feel like they have added their part, as it quickly builds and more people do it it will encourage others who are yet to vote. Doing something physical and creating a visually interesting piece will bring a feeling of solidarity amongst the student community.

Logo
We made a conscious decision to use a range of colour in the logo design. We wanted to keep it up beat and friendly whilst representing each of the political parties.

Final Work

Leaflet covers and sticker range

Mock up of the leaflet.

Here are the final designs we have mocked up. The design style is consistent throughout. After considering the target audience is students, type has been kept to a minimum so that they are not put off by having to read too much. The colours inject life into the design making it more interesting to look at and read.

Presentation Slides

Below is the presentation. In the corner of each slide the logo will be repeated but move around like the gif above.
